Why would Lt. John F Kennedy stop his Torpedo Boat (PT-109) in the midst of the hazardous Japanese shipping lanes known as the Tokyo Express, where it would be sunk by a collision with a Japanese destroyer? And why, despite the fact that General MacArthur wanted him court-martialed, was he instead later awarded a Medal for this action?

The Sinking of PT109 edition by Alex Malcolm Literature Fiction eBooks

Although this little book is interesting, it was sunk by a glaring historical inaccuracy. Much is made of the appearance of the Catalina flying boat as some amazing new addition to the American arsenal. However, PBYs entered service with the USN in 1936! That was 7 years before the PT 109 was sunk. A number of them were damaged or destroyed at Pearl Harbor!
Not exactly a page turner. A better read is the article Survival by John Hersey, written in 1944 from interviews with JFK and other survivors of the 109.

Very good, quick read. Filled in some things I did not know about the sinking of PT109. Would recommend to anyone who has an interest in JFK's life.
Easy reading straightforward telling of an historical event. Not sure why it is called a novel as it doesn't appear to be much different from facts learned years ago. Good introduction to one event in life of a future president.
Great new insights to the sinking of the PT109 and amazing facts regarding the political maneuvering by MCArther to become King of the Pacific.
I thought I knew everything about the PT 109 and Pres. Kennedy's service. This short book is a good summary with some surprises. I recommend it for those who enjoy history.
not the best book on PT109
It is short and is a Reader's Digest version of what happened in the Pacific that night and after. It mostly just skips the survivor's struggles from island to island. I think that was the most interesting part of the real story. It is cooler version of what happened with a spy thrown in. It is a quick read so it does not get boring until the end.
I was glad to read about President John F. Kennedy and the part he played in WWII. He truly was a hero and a man who loved his country.
