I was amused by how "every effort has been made to" tidy up this edition by the publishers (paperback edition), and bring the readerthe best, most authentic quality to the reading experience, blah blah. Basically it looks like the 1920 edition has been photocopied, none too expertly, on standard office quality paper. The binding and the thin cover, with a photo of a more expensively produced hard back version was a bit of a disappointment, too.
Still, the Kindle edition seemed to come in a grey ink rather than black, so at least the paper edition can be held in your hands even if it is outsized.
The material itself is intriguing, utterly unique prose, and inspiring to anyone doing contemplative practices concerned with spiritual earth. Also recommend is Fountain of Song by the same author. If I had to chose one, it would be Fountain of Song, as this comes in a more transportable standard paperback side. Each book has its unique tone and style.

The Candle of Vision edition by George William Russell "AE" Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
While the thoughts and words are strung together well and are often almost poetic, it is hard to get to the meat of what Russell wants you to think about and try to understand. I often found myself distracted by the metaphor and allegory and had to go back through the chapter of words to find the paragraph of truth.
I have no argument with thoughts and vision he expresses, but feel that a more concise presentation would be more convincing. However as I have no problem seeing with the minds eye perhaps the book was not writ for me.
Beautifully written and the best resource for anyone interested in the Second Sight.
Thank you so much!
Very happy, thank you.
This book was written almost 100 years ago but the spiritual aspects of what Russell depicts are timeless. I enjoyed reading this book and am heartened to know that my insights, intuitions and experiences with the universe are...universal!
This text, written in the similar temperament of Yeats and Blake, is a worthy ode to a Golden Age of nature mysticism that is sadly lost to most of humanity.
Perhaps the extensive wordiness means the prose is not quite in the class of those mentioned above. For example, the chapter on Celtic Cosmogony is extremely dense with grandiose descriptions of divinites that may or may not have transcendental value or currency.
What the author doesn't address is the problem of evil and how it emerged in or after cosmogenesis; or, maybe he doesn't care to, in all fairness.
On the positive side, there are many great lines and possibly my favourite quote is, "...I believe that for myself and for all of us there has been an eternity of being and that many spheres are open to us." (p. 145)
I'm grateful this book is available. The more exposure one has to the truth the more one can live a more authentic life here and beyond. I want to thank John Lamb Lash "Not In His Image " (another great work) for the recommendation.
